Shubert Organization Reports: “Hello Dolly” Broke New Ground in Our History

The revival of the old musical with Bette Midler in the main role was awarded for times on 71st Tony Award ceremony. Bette Middler, Gavin Greel and Santo Loquasto were nominated for Best Actress in a Musical, Best Featured Actor in a Musical and Best Costume Design of a Musical respectively.

Apart from this, The Shubert Organization which is the longest existing and the most prominent theatre owner in North America announced that the show ranked first by gross profit (it reached $2,297,057 after eight performances) during its overall activity. It means a lot because 17 Broadway and 6 outside of Broadway venues belong to this company.

Worth noting, it is not the first such an achievement in the musical’s history. In April 2017, “Hello Dolly” made $2,105,473 within seven shows and beat the previous organization’s record gross which stood at $2,056,956 and was established by “Hugh Jackman: Back on Broadway”.

The new issue of “Hello Dolly” musical has driven everyone crazy: people rushed to buy tickets shortly after performance’s announcement. The audience was so eager to get to the musical, that the first sale’s day was marked by a record number of tickets in the Broadway history not seen before.

Bette Midler’s genius acting did not go unnoticed. Besides Tony Awards Nomination, she was appreciated by some other credible foundations. Also, it is important to say that Director Jerry Zaks and choreographer Warren Carlyle made a major contribution to the musical’s success due to their prior experience.

The current setting of “Hello Dolly” seems closest to the classic show produced by Gower Champion in 1964 and opened at the St. James Theatre. According to the experts and theatregoers, that production is one of the most legendary performances of XX century.

The official premiere of the new “Hello Dolly” was held at Broadway’s Shubert Theatre on April 20, 2017. You can book Hello, Dolly! tickets here.
